From Valley Forge and Custer’s ranks to San Juan Hill and Patton’s tanks, the U.S. Army has been the first to fight and America’s might for 251 years. Throughout it all, U.S. Army Finance Corps Soldiers have been there, funding the fight, which is why the U.S. Army Financial Management Command held a ceremony to celebrate the Army and Finance Corps birthdays at the Maj. Gen. Emmett J. Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis June 15.
Bean Federal Center in Indianapolis June 15, 2026. The U.S. Army was established by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1775; and just two days later on June 16th, 1775, that same congress established the U.S. Army Finance Corps with creation of the office of Paymaster General, which was first held by James Warren.
For more than two centuries, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has stood at the forefront of America’s engineering excellence, national service, and infrastructure innovation. As the Corps marks another year of distinguished service, the U.S. Army Reserve reflects with deep appreciation on a partnership that directly strengthens our readiness, modernization, and ability to serve the nation. The Corps’ birthday is a reminder that every mission‑ready Army Reserve facility, every resilient installation, and every modernized training environment is built on the foundation of USACE’s expertise and unwavering commitment.
The Joint Force in the Jungle: The Alamo Scouts Blueprint for Special Forces in Large Scale Combat Operations

Over the last 20 years, the U.S. military has been highly focused on counterinsurgency operations as we engaged in the Global War on Terror (GWOT). This focus, along with expertise in irregular warfare and partner force operations, enabled Special Forces to take a predominant role in Afghanistan and Iraq. Today we face a different world. Competition among the great powers is increasing, requiring the U.S. military to shift focus to prepare for LSCO undertaken against a peer enemy. This transition is a natural fit for the conventional force as tankers prepare for armored clashes, naval officers plan fleet engagements, and pilots contemplate a world without airspace supremacy. For Special Forces, this shift can be more confusing. As divisions and corps become the units of action, where does a small team of Green Berets fit?
This review of America’s Taiwan Dilemma: Allies’ Reactions and the Stakes for US Reputation highlights how Michael A. Hunzeker and Mark A. Christopher assess allied perceptions of US reliability in a Taiwan crisis. Drawing on extensive interviews with policymakers in Australia, Japan, and South Korea, the book argues these perceptions—rather than raw military power alone—will shape allied responses and the broader strategic outcome.
The Boundaries of War: Local and Global Perspectives in Military History, edited by Lee L. Brice and Timothy M. Roberts, challenges traditional narratives by exploring how warfare is shaped by both local conditions and global forces. Through case studies ranging from ancient Rome to the World Wars, the book asks whether military history should be understood through regional uniqueness or broader transnational patterns. This thought-provoking collection redefines how we study conflict by bridging the gap between micro-level experiences and macro-level trends.
In A Violent Peace: A Global Military History of the Interwar Peace, editors Ian Ona Johnson and Robert Clemm challenge the myth of a tranquil interlude between the world wars by revealing a landscape of persistent and widespread conflict. Spanning four continents, the book uncovers forgotten wars, ideological clashes, and military transformations that shaped the global order long before 1939. This compelling volume reframes the interwar years as a violent and formative era, essential to understanding the trajectory of twentieth-century warfare.
Perhaps nothing is more American than baseball and apple pie, except maybe the U.S. Army, which was born a year before the nation itself. To honor that legacy, the Indianapolis Indians joined with the U.S. Army Recruiting Division, U.S. Army Financial Management Command and the U.S. Army Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion to celebrate the 251st birthdays of both the Army and the Army Finance Corps during a baseball game at Victory Field in Indianapolis June 12.
